What is Invisalign i7?

Invisalign clear braces compared to other braces

Most people have heard of Invisalign as a brand name for a particular kind of clear braces treatment, and if you need Invsalign in Dublin, Swords Orthodontics has been providing this kind of treatment for almost a decade now.

That said, since then, Invisalign has evolved a fair bit. For a start, the actual system is a lot more predictable and effective at moving teeth. The other way it’s changed is that there are now many different types of Invisalign treatment options.

People think that Invisalign is only for small orthodontic problems, but that’s not always the case. Invisalign can treat some fairly complicated situations and when we need to do that, then Invisalign Full is the standard treatment for most patients.

On the other hand, some patients do have some minor problems that need “ironed out” and that is where Invisalign i7 comes in. It’s just 7 aligners, each worn for 2 weeks and so the treatment only takes about 14 weeks. Same clear brace aligners, same procedures, but very definite treatment goals.

Of course, there is a limit to what we can achieve in 14 weeks, so when choosing whether a patient is suitable for an i7 treatment, a fair amount of care and experience is needed. It tends to be a good idea for people that might have had orthodontics once and didn’t wear their retainers as much as they needed to, and now they want their teeth straightened out, but the major movements of their original orthodontics have been done. It’s also handy for someone with small spaces or rotations in their teeth.

Very few patients actually ask me for Invisalign i7, because very few patients know it exists and honestly they may require treatment that is extensive and isn’t suitable for this version of Invisalign. But if there was a minor problem that needed to be put right, a course of Invisalign i7 might sort it out inside 4 months. If you think you might benefit from i7, call us today on 01 810 7622.

Why retainers are important

I had a patient come in this afternoon for an appointment that was marked in the diary as “retainer review”.

When I opened up his notes, it turned out that his orthodontic treatment finished over 3 years ago and we hadn’t seen him in almost 3 years. At that stage we had made him a spare retainer and he never came back to us to have it fitted.

When he came in, I said “so we haven’t seen you in nearly 3 years.”

“Yeah, I know. Sorry about that. Really busy with the leaving cert and that sort of thing,” he said. He explained that his retainer was ...

Orthodontics and Mouth Cancer 2025 Part 3...What happened next

After a busy day of orthodontic treatments, I was in the practice one evening doing some treatment planning for the patients that would be coming in later that week and the phone rang with Prof Stassen’s name on the screen.

As he does the jaw surgery and other special procedures for my patients that need them, I’d always take the call when I get it because it usually means something needs to be discussed in detail and I’ll have to make special appointments and the quicker I know what I have to do the quicker I can help my patients. In this case it was “remember ...

Orthodontics and Mouth Cancer 2025 Part 2...Our Experience at Swords Ortho

I have blogged about mouth cancer before. We had mouth cancer screening days in the practice, there was a national mouth cancer awareness day.

It’s not one of the more famous ones, there isn’t a national campaign where we wear a ribbon or a flower or have a coffee morning at work for it, but it’s certainly there in the background messing around with people’s lives. Before I was an orthodontist I used to work at the junior levels of various oral surgery departments around Northern Ireland and England and saw many patients receive treatment for it. Those patients were referred to us from one source ...
