Brace Care for the New School Year!

It’s that time of the year again- all the kids go back to school!! If you’re going back to school with braces, here are some tips and reminders to help you keep on track of taking care of your braces and improve your smile.

Eat Braces Friendly Food

When you wear braces, there are certain types of food you’ll need to avoid. These include sticky, chewy and hard foods. Also, drink lots and lots of water! Drinking water is not only important for your overall health, it also benefits your dental health. We recommend students take a water bottle with them to school so they can drink water throughout the day. The water will rinse away remaining food particles that are lodged in the braces after eating.

Protect Your Mouth during Sports

Your braces won’t get in the way of you having a fun and active lifestyle! But you should take some precautions to take care of your teeth. The most important thing to remember is to wear a mouthgaurd when playing sport like rugby, GAA or hockey.

It’s important for everyone to wear a mouthguard to protect their teeth and braces from any impact or injury they might sustain. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Pack a Braces Care Kit

After you’ve eaten your braces-friendly lunch, it’s a good idea to brush and clean your teeth. The braces care kit can help you be prepared for a quick clean or deal with any discomfort that comes along during the day.

Your kit should include:

  1. Your Swords Ortho Travel Toothbrush
  2.  A compact mirror
  3. Orthodontic Wax
  4. Mini mouthwash
  5. Interbrace brushes

We wish all our students the best of luck with the new school year! As always, if you have any questions regarding your orthodontic treatment or you are interested in improving your smile using braces- please don’t hesitate to call us and our friendly team will talk you through everything! You’ll reach us on 018107622 or swordsorthoinfo@gmail.com

There's a new video up on Swords Ortho TV

Our YouTube channel has a lot of Swords Ortho videos on it - some are plain silly, but most are there to help you get the best results from your treatment and the best experience on the way there.

Today's addition is a very useful chat from Courtney on how to look after your braces once you have them on - and your teeth. Please come back to this video often for ideas, because until this coronavirus is sorted out, we can't be spending too much time in a small demonstration room talking about tooth brushing - but there's plenty of space on the internet to ...

Just a brief update on Swords Orthodontics and our part in the national Covid-19 response

We remain closed for routine orthodontic treatment, but we are still answering emails, and checking the voicemails through out the day. Deliveries to the practice will be accepted by the small crew remaining in the practice while the rest of the team works from home and we will be looking after patients in pain or who have serious problems with their orthodontic treatment as appropriate.

But it's not just about teeth. Given the severity of the problem that Ireland and countries right around the world, it's important to us to contribute to ...
