Top tips for being prepared for Christmas

How early is TOO early to prepare for Christmas? – NEVER!

Usually as soon as Halloween us over with – the Halloween decorations come down and the Christmas decorations go up! Sometimes this even comes around earlier each year. Planning ahead for Christmas is always good for saving money and creating less stress around you. Even though not everyone is in festive spirit for Christmas, being prepared for it always pays off.

Top tips for being prepared for Christmas;

  1. Write a list; write down a list of the people you are getting presents for – if you have an idea of what you want to get a particular person, put it beside ...

Home movies, smiles.... and trees.

I’d seriously be of the opinion that Christmas is all about family and friends and the people that mean the most to us.

Kids on a hill in a home movie
The stuff of home movies for generations

So for me, that means my family converging for a few days in one place. This year we found a DVD that had been made from the cine camera footage that my family had taken in the pre-video age, put it in the player and watched those scenes again. All silent images, but shouting across the decades.

It covered various holidays and special times for my family from ...

A smile is a story in itself

...or at least the title of a chapter in the story.

Santa likes to smile, do you?
Santa always has a smile, do you?

Imagine there is one toy you needed to buy for Christmas, and the last shop you go into at 5pm on Christmas Eve has one left when you get there. What sort of smile would you smile?

The same smile as the child that opens that present?

Or the smile you have when you watch them open it?

smiles and champagne
Which comes first, the smiles or the champagne.

The smiles when your friends and relatives visit at ...

What do orthodontists get other orthodontists for Christmas?

Pukka English Breakfast Tea
Pukka English Breakfast Tea and a bamboo toothbrush -
that's going to bring a smile to this orthodontist this Christmas.

Orthodontists are a funny bunch.

This year, from some colleagues I received Christmas presents of:

  • a book by US politician Bernie Sanders (“Steve, I’m sure you would want to read Donald Trump’s book, I couldn’t bring myself to give him any of my money, he’s rich enough”),
  • a bamboo toothbrush –very eco-friendly
  • a box of English Breakfast Tea (“Stephen, I think you need to experience new things and take a break from your habits of only drinking Barry’s Tea. My prediction for 2019 ...

Probably not Ireland's Favourite Christmas Songs, just mine

After revealing the results of Ireland's Favourite Christmas Song using the statistically unreliable sample of Swords Orthodontics patients and parents, I thought I'd follow up with my own Christmas favourites. It may be the least viewed blog post on the Swords Ortho website this year, but quite a few people did ask me for my choice, so I thought I'd list them.

a Christmas selection
And these are a few of my favourite things....
a selection of my favourite Christmas records.

No Fairytales....

  1. Christmas Wrapping (The Waitresses)
  2. Step Into Christmas (Elton John)
  3. Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day (WIzzard)
  4. I Believe in Father Christmas (Greg Lake)
  5. Gaudete ...

Ireland's Favourite Christmas Song

I was curious to see what Ireland’s favourite Christmas song is, and since there was a bizarre variation on some websites I visited, I ran a fairly unscientific poll on the patients (and their parents) of Swords Orthodontics.

Swords Orthodontics wishes a happy Christmas to all out patients and their families and friends
Swords Orthodontics wishes a happy and constructive Christmas to all our patients, their parents and their friends.

No dental-themed songs like “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth” or “I want a smile for Christmas”, or even pun-tastic ones like “Little Gummy Boy”.

There’s usually an orthodontic tie-in with my blogs, even ...
