I did an adjustment for a patient’s braces today.

He’s 67.

I don’t think he’s my oldest patient ever but I think he’s the oldest currently in treatment with me (though he’ll be finishing soon, I expect).

Basically if you have healthy teeth and gums and want something fixed that needs orthodontics, we’d be happy to do it. If the teeth and gums aren’t healthy then we’ll advise what needs to be done and work with your dentist to achieve the best outcome.

About 1/3 of my patients are adults.

Good News, Bad News

It was a bit of a Good News, Bad News appointment.

I was fitting the replacement brace for the guy that lost his brace while out for a walk. This was half of a brace system called a “twin block” where there is one brace on the top jaw and one on the lower. He’d lost the lower one and we had a replacement made. I had asked him to continue to wear the upper brace in the meantime. When he came in, his mum said

“well we have a bit of news with the upper brace. Show Stephen the brace…”

The patient duly takes out the ...
