Taking care of your teeth and gums is essential to your health.  Plaque, which is a sticky, colourless film of bacteria, can build up on the teeth and cause significant problems, particularly when it hardens into calculus. This can lead to issues like holes in the teeth, gingivitis, decay, gum disease and bad breath. This is why it’s so important to have an excellent oral health care routine!

Here are some tips for maintaining excellent care of your teeth and gums:

BRUSH YOUR TEETH!

It is recommended that teeth are brushed twice a day for two minutes. Changing your brush regularly too is essential, usually, a toothbrush should be changed every three or four months.

FLOSS

Flossing gets what a toothbrush can’t reach so make sure you’re flossing once a day!

MOUTHWASH

Mouthwash can help destroy any bacteria that is left in the mouth after brushing and flossing. It gets to areas in your mouth that you may not think to brush – such as your tongue, the roof of your mouth, and your gums.

 LIMIT SUGAR AND FIZZY DRINKS

Sugar is what the bacteria in plaque thrives on. The less sugar you consume, the better your teeth are for it!

VISIT YOUR GENERAL DENTIST REGULARLY

You should visit your dentist every 6 months to have a full check-up. At these appointments any issues like cavities, decay, gum recession, and gingivitis can be detected and treated early to avoid any future problems. Most dentists preform a scale and polish of the teeth also at this appointment. Cleaning away any calculus build ups between the teeth!
