What's the oldest you can be and still have orthodontic braces?

I did an adjustment for a patient’s braces today.

He’s 67.

I don’t think he’s my oldest patient ever but I think he’s the oldest currently in treatment with me (though he’ll be finishing soon, I expect).

Basically if you have healthy teeth and gums and want something fixed that needs orthodontics, we’d be happy to do it. If the teeth and gums aren’t healthy then we’ll advise what needs to be done and work with your dentist to achieve the best outcome.

About 1/3 of my patients are adults.

Ten Years After

Had a patient today who come back for new retainers 10 years after the end of her treatment.

Her lower retainer was cracked but otherwise both upper and lower were in remarkably good condition.

The alignment of her teeth had maintained nicely, I was delighted with this and it would be great if we could get some photos to show

  1. the alignment before treatment,
  2. just after treatment finished and
  3. 10 years after treatment finished.

So we’ll make her new retainers. We have a scanner here, so there was no moulding of her teeth needed to make the retainers, and we’ll fit them soon.
