2019 Was a great year all around at Swords Orthodontics.

Here is a few of the highlights that have happened to us last year 2019..

Aesthetic dentistry awards.

In March we travelled to London for the aesthetic dentistry awards ceremony. It was held in the Landmark hotel which is a stunning setting as always. All of the team were very eager this year as we had worked really hard in 2018 and were very hopeful we would win an award so when our names were called three times for three separate awards we were all delighted. We won Best aesthetic practice Ireland, Interdisciplinary team orthodontic surgical and orthodontics child teenager fixed.

The baby boom

We welcomed three babies to the Swords ortho team this year and are going to welcome a third in January. Emma and her partner welcomed a baby boy Bradley in September, Brenda and her husband welcomed a little girl Sarah, and our oral surgeon Marie welcomed a baby girl Ava, both in October. Michelle and her husband are due a baby girl in January 2020. We celebrated with all the girls by throwing them baby showers. We are so grateful all babies and mothers are doing really well.

Education

This year was a great year for education here at Swords ortho, Gemma completed all her dental nurse training and passed all her exams with flying colours. She is now a fully qualified Dental nurse and we are so proud of her as she worked extremely hard and really deserves it. Courtney, Martina and Lisa all applied for spots on the dental radiography course which is due to start in January and were all awarded a place which we were all very excited about as we are all about extending our knowledge of the dental world.

New team member

We also welcomed our new specialist orthodontist, Dr Bogdan Selejan, to the team earlier in the year. We were delighted to welcome Bogdan to the team and we love working alongside him.

Orthodontic practice of the year

And to end the year on a high we won orthodontic practice of the year for the second year running in the Irish beauty industry awards. Which we were delighted about.

We have been very lucky to have a very positive year here at swords orthodontics and we are very excited for what’s to come in 2020.

Charging extra to write a letter - we don't

A while ago, I had to cancel a holiday to help a relative with some medical appointments. I notified the airline, and although I had the cheapest version of my ticket and it was not refundable the people I spoke to suggested I ask the refunds department and if they didn’t refund then go to customer care. My general advice with sudden changes to flight arrangements is always call the company rather than try to work it out through a website.

It remains to be seen if I can get a refund, but my travel insurance does have a feature that allows me to make a ...

Farewell to The Betsy

A few days ago, I heard that The Betsy in Swords closed suddenly. I was sorry to hear this. It was just across Swords Main Street from the practice and it was a location for many Swords Orthodontics lunches for birthdays and maternity leaves and even a Christmas party.

We're looking for a new colleague at Swords Orthodontics

Swords Orthodontics is looking for a new colleague. We have got some chairs/sessions available.

We are looking for Specialist in an area other than orthodontics - I would be delighted to consider colleagues from any areas, but probably endo and oral surgery may be the best fit at the moment. Not just to help us win more awards - though that's always fun - but to broaden the scope of the things we can do for our patients and their familes, as well ...
