Halloween & your brace

Halloween is a fun & exciting time of year for many kids but having braces on can make it more challenging. While it may be tempting to eat lots of sweets, chocolate and chewy treats, some of these can damage your braces, such bending the wires and getting stuck between your teeth.

Hard, sticky and chewy sweets are especially tricky as they can break a bracket or cause a wire to poke out which results in a trip to your orthodontist.

Luckily, there are still plenty of Halloween treats you can still enjoy such as chocolate and crisps. Taking extra care of your braces by brushing and flossing after eating can help keep your teeth healthy and your smile looking great.

With a little care you can have a spooky and enjoyable Halloween while keeping your braces safe!

I mean, that monster in the Predator movies, I think it's the Yautja, or Hish-qu-Ten or some sort of name like that, has a very interesting kind of dental setup where the jaw moves sideways as well as up and down when …

What's the Difference between an Orthodontist and a Dentist?

I got asked that yesterday.

Well in one way there isn’t a difference.

For some of us, anyway.

Let me explain.

I’m an orthodontist for example, but I’m also a dentist. In fact, every orthodontist in Ireland is a dentist as well - you can find their names on the Orthodontics division of the Register of Dental Specialists that is held by the Dental Council of Ireland as well as their general register of dentists.

There are about 150 orthodontists in Ireland and we are all dentists.

On the other hand, there are about 4000 dentists in Ireland and most of them – about 3,800 …
